At SPECTO Aerospace we work on innovative technologies to repair aircraft parts even smarter and more efficiently. For our location at Lelystad Airport we are looking for an enthusiastic and independent intern who will help us integrate Augmented Reality into our 3D repair processes.

At SPECTO Aerospace, a certified aviation engineering company located at Lelystad Airport and at the air base in Woensdrecht, we repair high-quality composite parts for the international aviation and defense industry. With a team of approximately 50 colleagues we work hard on our future. The Case

SPECTO is in fact a craft company in a high-tech environment (www.spectoaerospace.com). We have set ourselves the goal of extensive digitalization. Not only because it is more efficient, but also because it will help us to ‘change the game’. In the repair process of composite aircraft parts, a multitude of detailed data is already recorded by our specialists and engineers as standard. We are processing this information in a 3D environment in order to be able to communicate visually with stakeholders (Visualization), to unlock and store information during the process (Digital Twinning) and to be able to analyze all this data in order to be able to design the next generation of aircraft parts (Data Analysis). For this we use 1:1 scale 3D (CAD) models that we make ourselves from customer products using our own advanced scanning equipment.

The Assignment

SPECTO developed DAVI3D: a platform for 3D visualization and annotation of damage to aircraft components. A Proof of Concept was used to investigate how Augmented Reality (AR) can be connected to this, so that annotations can be projected directly onto the physical component. Your task is to further develop this concept.

The Deliverables

• An analysis report that validates or reconsiders the choices made regarding the existing Proof of Concept

• Analysing the needs of the staff for the functionality that will be realised

• Further developing the Proof of Concept to the next stage, including integration with DAVI3D software

• An advisory report on what still needs to be further developed after your deployment

What do we expect from you as an intern?

You are an enthusiastic team player who enjoys working with our Team at Lelystad Airport to come up with, research, build and test new solutions in an industrial environment.

You are a 3rd or 4th year Bachelor student in one of the following directions:

• ICT / Software Development

• Game Development

• Industrial Automation & Robotics

You have:

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

• Affinity with AR/VR and 3D scanning and measuring techniques

• Experience with software development in a technical context

• A proactive, investigative attitude

• Good communication skills (Dutch and/or English)
